Microsoft updates Windows 11 on a weekly schedule in the Dev channel. There is not much to report, but all Insiders will see improvements in File Explorer’s tabs and navigation. You can also download an ISO package to make a fresh installation.
Sun Valley 3: Testing in the development branch
This build is number 25179 and belongs to the Sun Valley 3 development branch, i.e., Windows 11 version 23H2. The update will be available for all users in the fall or late summer of 2023. The preview versions may be available sooner. Microsoft has been working for weeks to improve and introduce new features.
Build 25136 made improvements to File Explorer in June. All Insiders can now test these changes with the new Build 25179. This is good news for Explorer Tabs, as further fine-tuning can begin. This preview also features the most important update.
Navigation updates and Explorer tabs
The File Explorer title bar now includes tabs. This makes it easier to work in multiple places simultaneously. File Explorer has a new layout for the left navigation pane. This makes it easier to find the important folders.
You can quickly access your frequently used and pinned folders with the updated organization. Your OneDrive cloud profile added to Windows OneDrive cloud profiles displays the username associated with the account. Known Windows folders located under the navigation pane no longer show under “This PC.” This allows you to focus your view on your PC’s drives when you navigate to folders that sync to OneDrive (such as documents, photos, etc., it’s easy to see when your folders have been moved to the cloud or on-premises.
The spelling dictionary is another innovation. Microsoft is currently testing a language-neutral word list. Users who speak Tamil Anjal now have access to a Tamil Anjal keyboard. Microsoft also increased the default length of powercfg’s sleep study from 3 to 7 days. This command creates a report about the power state transition. You can try the pre-release version by using a create an ISO package.
These ISOs are only available to Windows Insiders who have signed up for the program. They can be used to test and allow for a clean installation. Only Windows Insiders can currently load the ISO package. You can catch up anytime by registering for the Insider Program right now. The download package can be downloaded only after you log in with a Microsoft account linked to it.
The preview builds 25136 is the basis for the new version of the ISOs. The ISOs can be downloaded as personalized download links for registered Windows Insiders. Only registered Windows Insiders can access this downloads website. The links are only valid for 24 hours. You can sign up for the Windows Insider Program anytime with a Microsoft account and a supported device.
