Samsung is developing a new technology to make smartphones screens more efficient.
This refers to the ability to adjust the frame rate for different display areas at once. The upper half of the display displays a picture at 30 Hz while the lower half works at 120 Hz. Patent even suggests the possibility of dividing screen into three areas at different frequencies.
While all options are possible as shown in the images, the technology will have its limitations. The controller will have at least some restrictions that will restrict your ability to update different areas with different frequencies. However, all details aside, the answer is no. This technology is useful for applications that have static screen areas. The other will, however, benefit from a higher refresh rate. The One UI interface was designed so that the top area of the screen is used less often than the bottom. This makes it easier to use the smartphone with one hand.
This patent is still in its early stages, so it’s impossible to predict when and if the technology will become mass-produced.
