At the end of this year, the fourth-generation Glonass-K2 navigation device will be launched. Alexander Ivanov, the Roscosmos deputy director general responsible for developing the orbital constellations and promising projects announced this.
“If we consider the orbital constellation, it is the well-known constellation for the GLONASS satellite system. Ivanov stated that the fourth-generation Glonass-K2 device is being prepared for launch at end of the year at the Army-2022 forum.
M.F. Reshetnev stated that five GlonassK satellites are currently in different stages of production at the enterprise’s workshops. Glonass-K satellites have a longer service life than their predecessors and better performance. They can transmit signals from the international COSPAS/SARSAT satellite system to aid in search and rescue efforts. Sergey Karutin (general designer of GLONASS) stated that Glonass-K2 would offer navigation accuracy of 30 cm or less.
