On Sunday, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, congratulated the Giga Shanghai plant for producing its one-millionth car. He also announced that Tesla had produced more than three million electric vehicles.
This achievement is especially noteworthy considering Giga Shanghai’s earlier production outage earlier in the year. The plant was closed for three weeks in April because of a resurgence in COVID cases. Tesla had to suspend its operations at Giga Shanghai to upgrade the plant during the first two weeks of July.
Recent reports claim that Giga Shanghai’s production capability grew to more than 50,000 Model Y’s monthly in July. This number should rise to 60,000 per month in the next few weeks. A YouTuber posted a video showing a group of 9,000 Tesla electric cars awaiting shipment at Shanghai South Port.
Tesla makes electric cars in Fremont, California, Austin, Texas, and Berlin-Brandenburg, Germany.
Tesla reported that it shipped 254,695 vehicles during the second quarter, an increase of 26.5% over last year.
