Samsung Galaxy S8 And Note 8 Are Now Compatible With Android 11

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 are now compatible with Android 11. Both phones are compatible with the Project Sakura Custom ROM.

Many devices have received the Android 11 update, even those made by Samsung. Some older devices may not be so fortunate, as official update support is only available for a limited time. For example, the Galaxy S8+, Note 8 and Galaxy S8+ have received Android 9 only.

But, thanks to Project Sakura, a custom ROM built from LineageOS18.1, owners of any of these three Samsung smartphones can now use Android11 with their phones. First, ensure you own a model that has an Exynos processor . These are the ones available in Europe.

Sakura Project Offers Some Android 11-compatible Devices

This preview ROM has some bugs. Developers have reported that Hardware Composer (HWC), is not functioning properly. This means that your smartphone cannot be used as a Wi Fi hotspot to share your Internet connection. HDR video playback is not possible, and Wi-Fi direct does not work.

It’s great to see older devices like the Galaxy S8 or Note 8 kept alive by the Android community. We would prefer 5 years of system updates support, but that is not the case. Project Sakura’s new versions offer all the functionality of Android11 and a simple user interface with many customizations.

You can update your Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 if you’re not afraid to modify your phone. To flash this ROM, you will need an unlocked bootloader as well as a custom restore such TWRP on your device.
