The Raptor Lake processors will be released in the second half of this year. They will only be an enhanced version of the Alder Lake. However, Intel should release a new Meteor Lake at the end 2023. Today we discovered something that will make these CPUs stand out from their predecessors.
Meteor Lake will, among other things include, a separate block that can be used for AI. Six years after Movidius was acquired, the Versatile Processing Unit (VPU), will be included in Intel CPUs.
The VPU within processors will include five components: a CPU/VPU integration unit; a memory management and controller unit; a network unit; and a Neural Comute Subsystem (NCS); The VPU module can therefore be considered an analog of Nvidia’s tensor cores. These cores are only capable of performing a narrow range or tasks in video cards. The VPU module will perform the same task in new Intel processors.
Meteor Lake will be switching to new microarchitectures to support large and small cores. It will also get a new GPU and switch to Intel 4″‘s 7 nm process technology.
