Apple allowed some apps to use links outside the App Store to pay subscriptions. Netflix now offers an iOS option that directs users to its website, so they can pay for their subscriptions directly.
The payment is not made in the application. This means that Apple does not process transactions. All payments will be made through the Netflix platform.
This will enable the streaming service to not pay 30% commission for every subscription that is made through the iOS application. This approach, however, increases the risk for users, according to Apple.
Subscriptions via the Netflix iOS app are no longer available. Cupertino attempted to resist the removal of this option by Netflix. Now, it appears that the company has established a precedent that could result in a mass exodus from “subscription” applications.
Not only Apple Pay, but also third-party payment options were allowed in South Korea and the Netherlands.
