Mazda wants to reduce the proportion of Chinese parts in their cars

Mazda Motor wrote to its suppliers, asking them to stock up on components in Japan and move production to China if possible. There were disruptions in parts supply due to lockdowns in Shanghai, which are connected with another coronavirus outbreak.

Mazda reported an operating loss of $144.4 million between April and June 2022. Mazda explains that certain of its most critical electronic components are sourced in China, and their supply was unstable during the last quarter.

Takeshi Mukai, Mazda Motor’s Senior Executive Director, stated that parts purchased directly from European and Japanese manufacturers could contain elements from China. Therefore, the company will diversify its geographic purchases for new models.
