Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO and Tesla CEO, announced that he was buying the Manchester United football team just hours ago.
Musk’s tweet caused a heated debate online, even though it is not clear at the moment if he plans to make a deal. Manchester United supporters have protested against the American Glazer family who purchased the club in 2005. The Glazer family didn’t respond to a request to comment.
Manchester United has won a record number of league titles and three European Cups. However, fans were concerned about the club’s management after a disappointing start to the season that saw the team lose the first two matches. The market capitalization for the football club stood at $2.08 billion as of Tuesday’s end.
Musk has been urged by some fans to purchase Manchester United, rather than Twitter. Recent reports revealed that Musk had refused to purchase the company due to false information about the number of fake accounts.
The court ordered Twitter to transmit the data to Elon Musk.
