How To Set Up Two-Factor Authentication On Snapchat

Snapchat was the first social media platform to disappear messages. Both new and old users will benefit from two-factor authentication via Snapchat. Every social media platform, Snapchat included, stores some user information, such as their name, age, and email ID. Bad actors can gain access to this information and use it for their purposes. Users should take every precaution to ensure that their social media accounts are secure.

Social media platforms generally only require one credential when users log in. This is their password. Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of security for the user’s account. Two-factor authentication requires other credentials. This is either a code that an authenticator app generates or sends to the user by text message. Even if the user’s password is compromised, the security measure will not allow login. The user can only access the unique code.

To enable two-factor authentication on Snapchat, users must tap on their bitmoji in the top left corner of Snapchat’s home screen and tap the gear icon in the top right corner to access the Settings section. Users should then locate and tap the “Two-Factor authentication” button. Snapchat clarifies at this point that two-factor authentication will be enabled. Users will need their password and a verification code sent directly to their phones to log in to new devices. Next, tap on “Continue” (bottom of the screen). The next screen will allow users to choose two ways to obtain their login code.

Choose from Text Verification or Authentication Apps

The login code can be obtained via text message or using a separate authentication app, such as Duo, Google Authenticator, and Duo. Text verification is the best option if someone has access to their phone and can send text messages while logging in. After selecting the option, Snapchat will send a unique code every time the user attempts to log in. If someone is traveling and can’t access their texts, authentication apps are the best option. Snapchat will redirect the user from the app to the authentication app installed on their smartphone. If not, they might need to download one. To enable two-factor authentication, the authentication app will generate a code that users must enter on Snapchat.

Two-factor authentication on Snapchat can be a security boost, but users need to be cautious about which method they choose. If a user loses their smartphone or deletes the authenticator app they used to create two-factor authentication on Snapchat; then this could result in them losing access to their account. They will not be able to access their login codes, and they will also lose access to their account. Snapchat recommends that users create a recovery code to allow them access to their Snapchat accounts in the event of an error.
