Customer fraud was common during the complete shortage of video cards last year. They just didn’t deliver packages where 3D accelerators were supposed. The deception seemed to have stopped with the stabilization and end of the deficit. But, two recent cases show that expensive purchases should be handled as responsibly as possible.
The first case was shared by Mauricio Takeda from Brazil, who ordered the GeForce RTX3090 Ti. Mauricio noticed something wasn’t right with the parcel and asked his wife for a video of him unpacking it. He did just that, and the parcel contained a plastic container with jars filled full of sand. Sellers often deceive buyers by not sending the model ordered, but something simpler. In this instance, however, the buyer didn’t receive any. Mauricio paid $2637 for Palit GeForce RTX3090 Ti GameRock. This despite the fact 3D cards in the US now cost $1,500. However, you can still find them at a discounted price of $1,000. The purchase might be profitable if you consider Brazil’s high taxes.
The deceived buyer was not helped by simple communication with Amazon technical support. Mauricio filed a lawsuit at the consumer protection court. The story became national news and Amazon didn’t address the problem until then.

Both orders were placed during the Amazon Prime Day sale. This shows that buyers need to be extra vigilant when marketplaces announce sales. It is possible for scammers and con artists to use this excuse.
