Apple is developing new technologies to protect users. Protection in the physical sense.
The new patent by the company, Contextual audio system is actually a next-generation smart sound cancellation system. This is a new transparency regime.
It regulates the ambient sounds that the headphones’ user will hear. According to a source, similar technologies could be found in any future AirPods Pro models.
It is possible for the system to miss certain sounds in the surrounding area, which could be linked with danger sources. You might hear sirens or the sound coming from a construction site. The system will not only analyze the sounds around you, but also your location via GPS on your iPhone or smartwatch, speed, direction, and so forth. The system will listen out for any unusual sounds when the user approaches busy intersections.
To help users better navigate situations, the system can adjust the volume or transparency mode. The headphones can also activate system alerts in the event of a hazardous situation.
This should improve pedestrian and cyclist safety on busy streets. It is possible that headphones can let in too many ambient sounds in the middle of a city, due to heavy traffic and noise. This may be a problem for some users.
