Android 12: Double Tap Gesture On Fingerprint Sensor

Google’s next mobile operating system will include many innovations, including a radical redesign of many graphic elements. The Android developers also considered something practical, particularly in terms of gestures.

This idea is not new and obvious. In fact, there was already a January report that Google was working on something similar. We are talking about a gesture system that uses the fingerprint sensor for certain actions. Google now has the second beta of the Android12. This version offers this type of gesture control.

The sensor can also be used to detect double tapping, as reported in Android Police reports. This function, officially known as “Quick Tap”, can be modified according to the user’s requirements. You can specify whether a screenshot has been taken or a digital assistant has been started by this gesture. This function allows you to play, pause or view media. You can also indicate whether a particular app is open.

Other Improvements

It is still beta, just like Android 12. Android Police tested the feature on several (Google) smartphones. Quick Tap worked well on a Google Pixel 5. However, this gesture control was not able to work on a Google Pixel 3a XL.

The Android 12 beta 2 brings many other improvements. This includes the Privacy Dashboard, which optimizes all privacy functions. Google also released additional elements of the updated material design.
